Ontario Veggies (Ontario Veggies Inc.), a business with farms in Niagara-on-the-Lake and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, sends marketing and transactional messages through several channels. This disclosure explains how we obtain your consent, what messages you will receive, how often, and how to opt out at any time.
1. Why We Collect Consent
Canadian federal anti-spam legislation (CASL) and the platform policies of Meta (Facebook, Instagram) and WhatsApp require that we have your express consent before sending commercial electronic messages. We will not add you to any mailing list or messaging programme without a clear opt-in action on your part.
2. Channels and How You Opt In
2.1 Email
What you receive: Farm updates, seasonal availability, pre-order and CSA announcements, and occasional promotional offers.
Frequency: Typically 2–4 times per month during the growing season; less frequently in winter. We do not send daily promotional email.
How to opt in: Check the “Subscribe to our updates” box on the contact form at ontarioveggies.com, or send us an email requesting to be added to our list.
CASL basis: Express consent. Each message identifies Ontario Veggies and our mailing address and includes a working one-click unsubscribe mechanism in compliance with CASL.
How to opt out: Click the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or email privacy@ontarioveggies.com with the subject line “Unsubscribe”. Requests are processed within 10 business days.
2.2 WhatsApp Business
What you receive: Order confirmations, farm-gate pickup reminders, and seasonal availability alerts directly related to your order or inquiry.
Frequency: Transactional messages are sent only in response to an active order or inquiry. Promotional broadcasts, if any, are sent no more than once per month.
How to opt in: You opt in explicitly by:
- ticking a consent checkbox on our website contact or order form, or
- sending us a WhatsApp message and confirming you wish to receive messages from Ontario Veggies.
Initiating a WhatsApp conversation with us alone does not constitute consent to receive marketing messages; a separate opt-in step is required for any marketing communications.
Platform policy: Ontario Veggies operates a verified WhatsApp Business account. All messaging complies with Meta’s WhatsApp Business Policy.
How to opt out: Reply STOP at any time in the WhatsApp conversation, or contact us at office@ontarioveggies.com. We will cease marketing messages immediately and confirm removal.
2.3 Facebook and Instagram Messenger
What you receive: Replies to your direct messages, and (if you opt in) seasonal updates and promotional content via Messenger.
Frequency: We respond to incoming messages as promptly as possible. Outbound promotional messages, if any, are sent no more than once per month.
How to opt in: You opt in explicitly by:
- messaging our Facebook Page or Instagram account and selecting or confirming the opt-in prompt, or
- completing a consent form on our website that includes a Messenger opt-in checkbox.
Platform policy: Messages are sent through our Meta Business Suite account in compliance with Meta’s Messaging Policies. We do not send unsolicited promotional Messenger blasts without a qualifying opt-in.
How to opt out: Reply STOP or Unsubscribe in any Messenger thread, or contact office@ontarioveggies.com. We will remove you from any messaging list within 10 business days and send a confirmation.
2.4 SMS / Text Messaging
What you receive: We do not currently send SMS text messages; order updates are sent by email or WhatsApp.
Frequency: transactional only, one message per order event.
How to opt in: a checkbox on our order or contact form, or by messaging us first
Message and data rates: Standard message and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply.
How to opt out: Reply STOP to any text message. You will receive a single confirmation reply and then no further messages.
3. Nature of Messages
Messages we send may include:
- Transactional: Order confirmations, pickup/delivery notifications, payment receipts.
- Informational: Farm updates, harvest schedules, knowledge-garden content.
- Promotional: Seasonal sales, CSA or pre-order windows, new product availability.
We clearly identify Ontario Veggies as the sender in every message and include contact information so you can reach us if needed.
4. Consent Is Voluntary
Opting in to messages is voluntary. Declining to opt in does not affect your ability to purchase from us or use our services. Certain transactional messages (e.g., order confirmation) may be sent as part of completing a transaction, which may rely on implied consent under CASL for a limited period.
5. Withdrawing Consent
You may withdraw consent at any time through any of the opt-out methods listed in Section 2. Withdrawal of consent does not apply retroactively. After we receive your opt-out request we will stop sending marketing messages as quickly as technically feasible, and no later than 10 business days.
